    I Bought a Bicycle…

I’m a runner, I’ve always thought of myself as a runner.  However a series of foot, ankle and knee problems have revealed that while my mind thinks I’m a runner, my body simply thinks I’m getting older and doesn’t really care what I think.
Don’t even ask about trying to get the fish line through the [...]

Obama And The Need For Change

    politically speaking Comments (0)

Senator Obama likes change, he wants a lot of change. All change all the time. I too like change, you get enough of it and it adds up to real money.

Somehow I can’t shake the feeling that if he gets the change he wants, I’ll get less of the change I want.

    I want my change.

    The Obama Service Plan…

    politically speaking Comments (0)

I’m always somewhat intrigued when I hear Sen Obama speak. He’s quite a charming speaker and it’s generally entertaining to hear him speak. However, I’m frequently left wondering just exactly what it is he meant…

Loving your country must mean accepting your responsibility to do your part to change it.

Evidently loving it as it is simply isn’t allowed…Granted the statement is directed at his supporters who are enthusiastic about the call for change. Fine. I’m all for some changes too, but I’d like to have a better idea of what his planned changes are to see if any of them line up with my desired changes.

“We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set,” he said Wednesday. “We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded.”

Please explain what you mean here Senator. Is it changes to the CIA, FBI? Simply more funding. I”m intrigued, curious, and skeptical too.

He said he would make federal assistance conditional on school districts establishing service programs and set the goal of 50 hours of service a year for middle and high school students.

The first thing that pops into my mind here is the old military saying “The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.” The second one is if you provide a financial incentive for something that’s what you’ll get. I’d rather have the school districts focus on education instead of service, and if we’re going to tie the funding to something, tie it to success with that. Still I’m not necessarily opposed to the idea, but I would like to know who gets to decide what counts as service and what doesn’t.

For college students, Obama would set the goal at 100 hours of service a year and create a $4,000 annual tax credit for college students that would be tied to that level of service.

Why only college students? Why can’t everyone get the credit? Do you have to be a full time student or can part time students take advantage as well?

I know that I live a tad on the paranoid distrustful of government side of life, but I can’t read through that without having a few visions of the secret police and school programs for the indoctrination of children.

It’s just paranoia I’m sure. It always is, right? That couldn’t really be what he meant could it?
